Terms of service

You must be 18 or older and legally allowed to take part in a squares pool where you live. Rules on this vary a great deal between countries and between US states, and it is your responsibility to know the ones that apply to you. If it is not lawful where you are, you may not use Pool Prophet.

You need an account, and the details on it must be accurate. Keep your sign-in secure; anything done through your account is treated as done by you.

Pool Prophet is software for running a squares pool among people you invite. It builds the grid, draws the row and column digits at random once every square is claimed, reads the live score from a public feed, and works out which square wins each period.

Pools are private. There is no public directory, and the only way into a board is a link or code from its host.

When you claim squares, your card is authorized: the money is held, not taken. It is charged only when all 100 squares in that board have been claimed.

If a board does not fill before entries close, every authorization on it is released and nobody is charged. Card authorizations expire after about a week, so entries open six days before kickoff: a board can be set up long before that, it simply cannot take money yet.

Entry amounts are set by whoever created the board. Pool Prophet does not add a fee and does not take a percentage of the pot.

This section is unfinished and must be completed before launch. The application determines the winner of each period and notifies them of the amount, but it contains no mechanism that transfers money to them. How and when winnings actually reach people, and who is responsible for sending them: is a decision about the business, not something that can be read out of the code, so it has been left blank rather than guessed at. Marketing copy elsewhere on this site describes payouts as automatic; that claim and this clause need to be made to agree.

The digits on both axes are generated at random the instant the hundredth square is claimed. They are never drawn earlier, nobody: including the host and us: chooses them, and they are not regenerated afterwards.

Do not use the service to defraud anyone, do not try to interfere with how squares are allocated or how numbers are drawn, and do not attempt to access boards you were not invited to. We may suspend or remove accounts that do.

You are responsible for the names you give your pools and for who you invite. Do not upload or enter anything unlawful, abusive, or that infringes someone else’s rights. We may remove a pool that breaks this.

We aim to keep the service running but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted. Live scores come from a third-party feed and can be late or wrong; where a feed is clearly in error we may correct a settlement to match the official result of the game.

The service is provided as-is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid in entries through Pool Prophet in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

You can stop using Pool Prophet and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Pools already under way when an account closes continue for the other players.

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and where a change is significant we will tell account holders by email. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.
